What's Unique about CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Stamford Hospital
Our CyberKnife® Center is designed to be patient-friendly, convenient and comfortable. It is located at the Tully Health Center, convenient to both I-95 and the Merritt Parkway and very near downtown Stamford, CT. Parking, including valet-service, is plentiful and on-site. There is a private and comfortable waiting area, close to the Tully Center café.
Stamford Hospital brings you the most advanced treatment for cancer with CyberKnife radiation therapy technology. Installed in the spring of 2008, our state-of-the-art equipment includes the Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System, which permits higher doses of radiation to be used, leading to more effective eradication of tumors and a higher success rate.

The Synchrony system simultaneously tracks both the movement of the tumor and breathing patterns of the patient. The robotic arm adjusts and automatically compensates for these movements, ensuring more accurate CyberKnife cancer treatment and eliminating the need for cancer patients to hold their breath during the delivery of radiation, resulting in a more accurate and comfortable procedure. With Synchrony precision, tumors near the heart and lungs can be treated and patients who have lung, pancreas, liver and other soft tissue tumors can now be treated in less time. CyberKnife radiation treatment sessions are shorter and much easier on patients.
What Is CyberKnife?
Not a "knife" at all, CyberKnife utilizes sophisticated technology that uses radiation like a scalpel to effectively treat tumors and lesions. It utilizes specialized machinery (called a linear accelerator) that is mounted on a robotic arm, providing superior flexibility in targeting sites that may be inoperable. The advanced technological system uses imaging science to track the target location. Even if the patient moves, CyberKnife delivers pinpoint accuracy.
The sophisticated Dynamic Tracking Software, exclusive to CyberKnife, enables the use of radiosurgery anywhere in the body. It is this particularapplication that makes CyberKnife useful in treating otherwise untreatable or inoperable tumors.
The CyberKnife System is ideally suited for patients who:
- Want or need an alternative to traditional surgery
- Have a condition diagnosed as inoperable
- Have been previously treated with the maximum allowable dose of radiation
- Want treatment or radiosurgery that doesn't require use of a stereotactic frame
